The #1 Momentum Drain in Dev Teams

We’ve talked about the value of small, daily deploys and how you can achieve that with feature flags. But let me warn you about the most common issue that prevents these from happening: long review queues.

Most structured development teams follow a process like Kanban, where tasks move from an idea column on the left, through ready, in progress, review, and finally complete. The review stage is often where work goes to die.

Long review delays kill momentum. Developers think they’ve finished a task, only to find out a week later that revisions are needed. Even worse, if there’s a misunderstanding in the task requirements, developers might build on an incorrect foundation, which wastes more time.

To maintain both momentum and developer morale, keep reviews prompt and the queue short!
